Cherries

As I gaze into the picturesque horizon, then deep down from the cliff, I see you lingering in the peripheral vision of my mind. The wind whispers gently, slightly coaxing me towards the edge, closer to the precipice. Each thought of you is a step I take closer. Hesitant to leap, scared to fall, secretly hoping you were waiting for me at rock bottom when you were silently observing from the clouds.

As you parted our paradigm, I watched our stars unravel with yours greedily taking the light away from mine. Burning you brighter, taking away my love. “Real love is tough love,” I thought as I fell to pieces when I was with you, unable to take a hold of myself anymore. I am ruined, no longer to burn bright, as you scattered my pieces and blew it with the winds of space, floating into nothingness.

Like cherries from the same stem, you’re rotten right to the core when I’m sweet. Slowly intoxicating, too afraid to let go. You make me bittersweet, then tell me you missed my flavor. As you poison me, I bled out a lovely despair. For where else I could go other than be poisonous with you? I am ruined, no longer to bring euphoria, as you pick my pieces just to feed me to the starving snakes, crushed into pieces, and never to love again.

Now, as I stare back at the abyss, noticing the breeze you created, I no longer know myself. As for my better judgment, it has floated up to the clouds you float, ushering me to leap. As I jump, I fall like cherries severed from the branches of your tree. I am ruined, no longer able to change my mind, as you stare at my pieces and grin like a devil, searching to find another cherry to pop.
